Israeli-Austrian conductor, Orr Guy, has benefited from some of Europe’s finest conductor training. After completing his bachelor’s degree at the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music in Tel-Aviv, he went on to pursue his master’s degree at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, where he graduated at the top of his class with distinction in 2018. Shortly after, Orr made his Bridgewater Hall debut, where he stepped in to conduct the RNCM Symphony Orchestra after Maestro Yan Pascal Tortelier cancelled on short notice.

In 2021 he was awarded first prize ex aequo in the International Conducting Competition Città di Brescia- Giancarlo Facchinetti (Italy) and in 2020 he was a candidate in the prestigious Gustav Mahler conducting competition. In addition Orr won first prize at the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music Chamber Music Competition, was awarded twice a scholarship from the America-Israel Cultural Foundation, and in 2018 he received the RNCM’s Mortimer Furber Prize for Conducting.                                                                                   

In September 2022 he was appointed as Nova-Orchester-Wien’s assistant conductor and over the course of his studies, he regularly served as assistant conductor to Vasily Petrenko with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, and to Juanjo Mena with the BBC Philharmonic.

In 2023 he participated the prestigious Domaine Forget conducting program where he worked with Kensho Watanabe and Yannick Nézet-Séguin. After a rigorous process he was selected to conduct Orchestre Metropolitain alongside with Nézet-Séguin in the festival’s closing concert. He was accepted to numerous masterclasses with Sir Mark Elder, Nicolás Pasquet, Johannes Schläfli and in 2017 was the first Israeli to be accepted to the Järvi Academy, where he was coached daily by famous maestri, Paavo Järvi and Neeme Järvi. Furthermore, in 2019 Orr was accepted to the highly competitive Britten- Pears Young Artist Programme with Antonio Pappano.

Among others he conducted Israel Philharmonic, Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, Bamberg Symphoniker Hradec Kralove Philharmonic and MDR Sinfonieorchester.                                                                        Since 2018 Orr is serving as musical director of Pennine Spring Music Festival in Yorkshire
